On July, 1, 2009 the action-thriller “Public Enemies” is released. The plot of this based-on-a-real-story movie is the following. It’s the story about a famous outlaw John Dillinger who was a bank robber during the Depression years. He was the major enemy of Hoover and the top agent of the FBI, Melvin Purvis, and a beloved hero of American public.

In the late 1930’s everyone knew about Dillinger and his gang and noone could stop them. No jail could hold him. And people loved him for his charm and rumoured jailbreaks. Not only his girlfriend Billie Frechette adored him, but American public as well, as he robbed banks and common people accused bankers to cause the Great Depression.

And exactly at that time Hoover decided to promote his Bureau of Investigation and make it the major national police force (FBI). To do that he used the situation with Dillinger’s gang which then included such sociopaths as Alvin Karpis and Baby Face Nelson. Hoover made John Dillinger the America’s Public Enemy Number One.

But nothing helped and Dillinger’s gang always won in wild shootouts and chases. And only after Hoover invited exlawmen (agents) from the West and caused several loud betrayals from Frank Nitti, the Chicago crime boss, to notorious ‘Lady in Red’, he managed to get closer to Dillinger and catch him.

The “Public Enemies” was directed by Michael Mann and features Johnny Depp, Marion Cotillard, and Christian Bale. You can watch the official trailer below.
